FRACS Orthopaedic Exams

An obese 65 year old lady is referred to you with a 5 month history of painless swelling and increasing deformity of her right ankle region. She cannot recall any trauma but has had Type II Diabetes Mellitus for ten years. Her GP, after examining her, has noted warm swelling and a moderate valgus deformity of the ankle, with associated broadening and shortening of the heel.

1. Give your differential diagnoses
2. What the goals of treatment?
3. How will you treat this lady?
