Definition
- Non-progessive syndrome of brain damage causing altered posture & movement & occasional sensory & intellectual dysfunction
- Caused by lesion of the brain, generally motor but also sensation & cognitive development may be involved
- Only 10% of lesions are post natal
- Perinatal hypoxia, prematurity, low birth weight are all factors
- Types include spastic, athetoid, mixed, ataxic, hypotonia
