Subaxial Cervical Injuries

  • beaware that this  may mimick pseudosubluxation
  • however, keen attention to mechanism & energy are required
  • these injuries may be occult through the growth plates

Posterior Ligamentous Injuries

  • limited capacity for healing & if diagnosed need to be immobilized in hyperextension & if instability is diagnosed will require fusion

Wedge Compression Fractures

  • immobilize in extension
  • beaware that there may be posterior ligament insufficiency

Distraction – Shear Fracture Dislocation Facet Dislocation

  • unilateral should come easily with traction
  • bilateral should also come easily with traction
  • if traction not working go to an open reduction
